Viña del Mar, also known traditionally as Ciudad Jardín (Garden City), is a Chilean town and commune belonging to the province and region of Valparaíso, Chile, which together with the communes of Valparaíso, Quilpué, Villa Alemana, and Concón, integrate the Metropolitan area of Valparaíso.

Visit the flower clock:

one of the must-see visits to Viña del Mar is to this famous clock located at the foot of Castillo Hill, an icon of the city built entirely of flowers of different colors, working with an elaborate computer system that allows giving the current time.

The history of this unique watch dates back to 1962 when it was built to beautify the city on the occasion of the election of Viña del Mar as one of the headquarters of the World Cup. Today, according to tradition, whoever photographs the clock behind him, will return to visit the Garden City.

Walking along the coast:

Viña del Mar has a privileged coastal edge to walk on, enjoying the breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, and the many restaurants, terraces, craft fairs and other entertainment sites that congregate around the waterfront.

A good way to do the tour is to start in the famous Flower Clock, walking from there always to the north. Along the promenade, the coastline is changing its name and surroundings, starting with La Marina, then the famous Peru Avenue with its immense rocky areas, to the beautiful beaches and residential buildings that follow each other along the stretches known as San Martin and Jorge Montt.

The circuit of beaches begins with the urbanist ones:

Caleta Abarca, Casino, Acapulco, El Sol, Blanca and Los Marineros, all surrounded by residential towers and have a beautiful walk. After these, the small Las Salinas beach follows, with soft wave’s ideal for bathing, Reñaca with bigger waves perfect for surfing, finally ending in Cochoa.

Visit the Casino:

the Casino of Viña del Mar is one of the most emblematic places in the city, worthy of a visit even when it is only to admire its imposing building surrounded by elegant gardens, a construction inaugurated in 1930, now declared a place of Historical and architectural interest by the city council.

At the Casino itself, you can enjoy a variety of gambling machines, game tables and shows. You can also visit the elegant 5-star Del Mar Hotel, as well as restaurants, spa, and other entertainment venues.

Night Life:

after sunset, the beaches of Viña del Mar are usually empty of people, moving the activity to the different night poles of the city. The first point to enjoy the night is the lively San Martin Avenue, with its dozens of pubs and restaurants, especially visited by young adults and tourists.

The resort of Reñaca, on the other hand, offers youthful nightlife, with several nightclubs running until the wee hours of the morning, especially during the summer season. Other good alternatives to going for drinks can be found around the main streets of the center of the city or already in neighborhood Valparaíso.
